Cash: Why can't daddies born babies?
Me: Their bodies aren't made to.
Cash: What if two daddies want to have a baby?
Me: They would have to adopt one.
Cash: What if a mommy and a daddy have a baby and then the mommy decides she wants to live somewhere else and another daddy moves in - then would two daddies have a baby?
Me: Yes, that would work.

I think Cash has been watching After School Specials behind my back!

Fancy Nancy

Travis's birthday was Sunday. Cash was insistent that he was going to get Daddy some "fancy clothes" for his birthday. He wanted to get him a fancy shirt, fancy tie and fancy vest (meaning sweater vest) and he could not be talked out of it. You should know that Travis doesn't have to wear a tie to work - ever.

So I took the boys to Dillards, one of the few stores with a Big and Tall department, and Cash picked out a shirt and tie with just a bit of guidance from Mommy. Luckily, he forgot about the sweater vest. Travis is a good sport but that would have been pushing it. Travis is SUCH a good sport that he wore the shirt and tie to work the very next day!

 

The boys also decorated Travis's birthday cake all by themselves. He turned 35 but they found that 30 candle in a drawer and wanted to use it.

Respect Your Elders

We're in Indiana visiting Granddad and MaMaw. We had an extended family dinner tonight in honor of Travis's birthday. When MaMaw Ann arrived (MaMaw's mother - essentially the boys' great-grandma), Cash led her to the rocking chair, brought over a bean bag for her to rest her feet on and covered up her lower half with a blanket. All of this without any prompting from anyone. Then he brought her his stuffed bunny to cuddle, a picture book to look at and a pillow for her back. He came over and asked me what else he could do for MaMaw Ann. I told him he could get her a glass of water and then I remarked that I was very proud of how helpful and nice he was being to her. Well within earshot of MaMaw Ann he replied, "Well, she's an old lady so she needs my help." Luckily, everyone including MaMaw Ann laughed. Except Mommy - she was preoccupied being mortified.

Short Take

Cash's first words upon entering our hotel room: "Look! It even has a bathroom!"

Oh yes, little man. Nothing is too good for my boy.

Short Take

West is spending the night with Grandma tomorrow night. Whenever one of the boys goes to Grandma's house, we try and do something extra special with the boy we have at home with us. I asked Cash what he wanted to do tomorrow night while West was gone and he said, "I want to do something really, really fun that we've never done before. I want to teach Daddy how to ride a unicycle!" That would be really, really fun for Mommy to watch.

Lucky Grandma

My mom's birthday is Thursday so I asked the boys what we should get Grandma for her birthday.

Cash: I think we should get her a sword!

Me: What would Grandma do with a sword?

West: Fight bad guys?

Me: I don't think Grandma fights bad guys.

Cash: How about a soccer set?

Me: Does Grandma play soccer?

Cash: Well, she would if she had a soccer set!

Grandma sure is lucky to have such thoughtful grandsons.

Silly Mommy

I took the boys with me to the chiropractor this morning. They were curious why I needed to go and I told them I slept on my neck wrong and it hurt. They said that when we got there, they would show me the proper way to lay down so I wouldn't hurt myself again. They spent the rest of the car ride demonstrating and discussing various sleeping positions. Thanks boys.

Bad To The Bone

The boys got their pictures taken today and were really good for the photographer. She could actually work with them on things like where to place their hands because they were sitting still instead of running after them with the camera while they bounced off the walls like maniacs. I made sure to praise them heartily for how good they were. When we got out to the car, Cash started to act up and I said, "Cash don't ruin the goodness now by acting like that." to which he replied, "Mommy, the GOODNESS ruins the BADNESS." Don't I know it.
